  The "down south" or Southern Province of Sri Lanka, known for its beaches and relaxed atmosphere, includes cities like  Galle, Matara,Tangalle,Dickwella, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, Mirissa, and Hambantota .   The south coast of Sri Lanka covers the area from the beaches just east of Galle down to the port of Hambantota . The beaches here are generally far less touristy than those of the busier west coast; it's not unusual to find yourself alone on long, dreamy stretches of palm-fringed sand, especially east of Matara. If you’ve traveled around Asia and spent any time in Sri Lanka, you’re likely to have noticed that this beautiful island nation in the Indian Ocean is incredibly easy to travel in compared to its more intense neighbors.
